Glass and Glazing Contractor Licensing Requirements
In Florida, obtaining a Glass & Glazing Specialty Contractor License confirms your authority to fabricate, install, repair, and replace glass and glazing systems—including windows, storefronts, curtain walls, shower enclosures, mirrors, panels, and other architectural glass components. To qualify:
You must be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting), and demonstrate financial responsibility, such as a credit check or a bond if required.
Experience or education is required. You may qualify with one of the following:
• 4 years of glass and glazing–related experience (with at least 1 year as a foreman or supervisor),
• A combination of college-level construction credits and practical supervisory experience, or
• A construction-related degree plus at least 1 year of relevant field experience.
You must pass two parts of the licensing exam:
• Business & Financial Management, and
• Glass & Glazing Trade Knowledge, covering topics such as glass types and performance, storefront and curtain wall systems, window and door installation, sealants, hardware, fasteners, Florida Building Code requirements, wind-load considerations, and jobsite safety.
The exam is open-book, and you’ll need approved reference materials such as the Florida Building Code, AAMA standards, ASTM references, OSHA requirements, and glazing installation guides.
Once you pass the exams and submit your application, licenses are typically issued within several weeks. With certification, you’ll be fully equipped to legally and confidently take on Florida’s residential and commercial glass and glazing projects.
